About the Organizer:

Mr. Jothiravi has been a community minded individual ever since arrived in Canada in 1986. From 1986 to 89, he helped organize annual International Night festivities at Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute (MGCI) in Toronto and received numerous awards and recognitions for his public service which included 'Excellence in Public Education Award' from then East York (Toronto) Board of Education.

Since moving to the National Capital Region of Ottawa in 1989, he founded the University of Ottawa Tamil Students' Union (TSU) with his fellow Tamil students. He held both the Vice-President and Treasurer positions at TSU. He also published a monthly magazine and helped organize the first ever Tamil Radio show in Ottawa for TSU through CHUO FM (Radio Station of the University of Ottawa).

Over the years, Jothiravi has assisted many Ottawa Tamil Organizations with various tasks. The organizations such as: National Capital Region Tamil Association, Ottawa Tamil Seniors Association, Ottawa Tamil Association, Ottawa Tamil Academy of Culture and Technology, Ottawa Cine Musiq and Ottawa Thendral Music Group to name a few.

In 2012, in order to bring back Tamil cultural awareness among the youngsters of Ottawa, he co-founded Muththamizh Kalaa Mandram (MKM). The MKM went on to organize very successful Pongal Vizhas (Harvesting Festival) at Kailash Mital Theatre, Carleton University from 2012 to 2015. These events made huge cultural impacts among Ottawa Tamil Community and especially on youngters. During this time, he also co-founded Ottawa Tamil Children and Youth Foundation (OTCYF). The OTCYF successfully organized two grand Halloween Events for the Tamil Children of Ottawa.

After visiting Cleveland Aradhana Festival for few years , Johiravi wanted to focus more of his time on our Children and Youth. Therefore, he founded SangamamOttawa in 2016. The Sangamam has successfully organized two Indian Classical Music & Dance events for Children & Youth as part of Ottawa Tamil Heritage Month Festivities.

Helping his community has always been his passion and he hopes to continue this community task with the help of other like-minded community members in Ottawa. As one of his notable achievements, he initiated and received Tamil Heritage Month Proclamation from the City of Ottawa. This Proclamation is a gift to Ottawa Tamil Community's future generations from Ottawa, the Capital City of Canada. SangamamOttawa has been undertaking the renewal of the city's poclamation, every year, on behalf of Ottawa Tamil Community.

Ottawa Tamil Heritage Month:

The month of January has been officially proclaimed as Tamil Heritage Month (THM) in Ottawa since 2014. Since then , the Sangamam Ottawa has been undertaking the renewal of the proclamation, yearly, on behalf of the Tamil Community of Ottawa.
